About The Project:

FETCH! makes it easy to look up and share experiences from real people about hair and skincare products. Our web application provides users with a online forum/blog environment where they can research products on the fly before they buy, giving customers confidence and peace of mind when shopping for their personal hygiene products. It is through this collaborative, worry-free atmosphere that we hope will help promote buyer confidence and increase consumer awareness. Using an interactive database, users can search by brand, name, and rating for a wide range of products. They can create a handle to post reviews, rate products, and even keep track of items. Fetch will initially be available through any internet browser, but we also plan to feature cross-platform integration for mobile access, so you can check reviews on the go.

The Problem FETCH! Web Application Solves:

Time is a commodity and people don't want to spend more time than they have too, searching for product reviews on multiple websites. The FETCH! web application will centralizes product reviews to single website to reduce the hassle of searching for product reviews.

Wireframe of FETCH! Web Application:

Results from Wireframe User- Testing:

We found three users to participate in our wireframe testing session. We were mainly looking to find out how design and layout of our web application would effect users usability. During our testing session we simply give our users a task, to see if they were able to navigate our web application efficiently. Users were asked to think aloud throughout the process.

Problems we found from user testing:

  • Homepage: Login feature is not clearly displayed (you have to scroll down to even know that you're required to login).

  • Product Category Screen: It's not clear what the "Home" button in the product sidebar does and why it's there.

  • Product Screen: If you have an interest in a product, there is not recommendation to buy the products on a different website.

  • User Home Page: Hard to distinguish if "Write a Review..." on users page is a button or just text on the website. If, it's a button, what happens when you click?

FETCH! Database Layout:

MySQL was used to create the product database behind the FECTH! web application. The database will be used to save new information (eg., new product post, images, reviews). This database is the backbone of FECTH! being that all the information displayed on the website about products is pulled from this database, including images.

FETCH! Web Application Prototype:

Programs Used For The Creation Of FETCH!:

HTLML/CSS: content, structure, styling

Javascript/jQuery: used for interaction design portion for website.

PHP: used to process inputs, outputs and dynamic content throughout website.

Bootstrap: used for the framework of website.

MySQL: used for database creation and database queries.

Challenges Encountered Creating FETCH!:

Most of our problems revolved around MySQL and the database, which is the backbone to our web application. Due to this and a time constraint, we could not implement some of the webpages.
